Cricketers selected
KATHMANDU: Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) on Sunday selected an 18-member team for closed camp training for the ACC U-19 Women’s Championship slated for December 13-23
in Thailand. Sita Rana Magar, Neri Thapa, Keshari Chaudhary, Mamata Thapa, Binu Budha Magar, Sarita Thapa Magar, Samjhana Sharma and Trishna Singh are from Region No 5 (Nepalgunj), while Roshani Bohara, Maya Rawat, Sonu Khadka, Rekha Rawal and Rachita Ojha were selected from Region No 6 (Baitadi). Others in the camp are Sushmita Chaudhary (Bhairahawa), Gita Chudal and Sarita Magar (Kathmandu), and Sabina Karki and Benja Rayamajhi (Biratnagar). — HNS
Sixth TIA Cup
KATHMANDU: Grand Academy beat Prithvi School 44-32 at the sixth TIA Cup Inter-school Basketball Tournament here on Sunday. Alon scored 15 points for Grand, while Padam netted 16 for Prithvi. In other boys’ section matches, HIMS thrashed Advance 50-8; Gyan Niketan outplayed Reed Model 42-14; Daffodil overwhelmed Newton 48-17; and Sapta Gandaki defeated Himalaya 28-13. In the girls’ section match, Gillette outplayed Advance 22-6 riding on Tshering Sherpa’s eight points. — HNS
LACM Sports Meet
LALITPUR: Golden Gate College thrashed Capital College and Research Centre (CCRC) 12-1 in the football match under the second LACM Sports Meet here on Sunday. Shiva Shrestha scored a hat-trick, while Nirajan Malla and Ram Krishna GC struck two each for Golden Gate. Nabin Maharjan, Navesh Pokharel, Ravi Thapa, Ganesh Khadka and Jagjeet Shrestha also joined the party. Samin Mahat scored the consolation goal for CCRC. In the other match, Sun Shine College overwhelmed NCM College 13-1. Rahul Manandhar netted a hat-trick, while Siddhi Shrestha, Saroj Dahal and Nirmal Shrestha scored two goals each. Saroj Thapa, Raju Sinkeman, Thakur Shrestha and Navaraj Basnet also found the net for for the winners. Subash Gubaju scored for NCM. — HNS
Inter-school Volleyball
KATHMANDU: Namuna Machhindra School of Lagankhel, Lalitpur is organising the Inter-school Volleyball Tournament from Monday on the occasion of the school’s 57th anniversary. In all, 12 teams are taking part in the five-day tournament, said the organisers at a press meet on Sunday. The top three teams will receive Rs 10,000, Rs 5,000 and Rs 2,500 respectively. The teams are divided into four groups and the top two will advance to the semi-finals.
On Monday, Deep Jyoti will take on hosts Namuna and SEBS will play against Lubhoo School. — HNS
Cardinal champion
KATHMANDU: Cardinal International Boarding School of Dollu won the second Dakshhinkali Cup Shito-Ryu Karate and Kick Boxing Championship with four gold, three silver and two bronze medals. Hosts Dakshhinkali Dojo came second with three gold and four silver medals. Raj Kumar Balami and Shova Balami of Dakshhinkali Dojo were declared the best fighters. In all, 150 players took part in the event. — HNS
Players get NOC card
KATHMANDU: Member Secretary of National Sports Council (NSC) Jeevan Ram Shrestha and Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) President Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan distributed the NOC cards to the national and international players here on Sunday. A total of 50 players who represented Nepal in the international tournaments and those who have participated in the national tournaments received the NOC cards. On the occasion, the NOC also recognised the Nepal Olympic Museum run by Kshitij Arun Shrestha. — HNS
