Punya Man beat FM
KATHMANDU: Punya Man Karmacharya defeated Yemeni FIDE Master Mofleh Fouad as Nepal's Makhan Chess Club played a 2-2 draw with Yemen in the fourth round of the Asian Team Chess Championship in Kolkata on Friday. The 2015-rated Karmacharya overpowered 2199-rated Fouad to earn a point in the championship. He had defeated HLM Hapuarachchi of Sri Lanka in the third round. Also, Raj Kishore Mahato of Nepal beat unrated Abdullah Sonbul. Meanwhile, Sujendra Prasad Shrestha lost to Al-Aqrabi Saleh and Sajan Pandey bowed down to FM Yahya Faraj. In the women's section, Nepal's Monalisha Khamboo, Asmita Adhikari, Tara Ghale and Bishakha Jaiswal lost their fourth round matches to Sri Lanka.
NASA award winners
KATHMANDU: The Nepal Automobile Sports Association (NASA) on Friday awarded the winners of the first Sincere Citizens Moto Rally held on December 12. The first place finishers Kedar Nath Poudel and Mohini Khanal received Rs 27,000 while Sanjeev Kumar Shrestha and Bikash Bajracharya took Rs 9,000 after ending up second. Rabin Sharma and Sharad Poudel had finished third to get Rs 3,000.
Golden Gate through
Kathmandu: Golden Gate, Samakhushi Youth Club, Whitefield, Xavier International and Trinity advanced to the quarter-finals of the GAA sixth Fr Watrin Men's Basketball Tournament organised by Godavari Alumni Association (GAA) here today. In the day's first match, Golden Gate defeated Revolver 68-35 riding on Sushil Gurung's 22 points. Utsav Chand contributed nine points for Revolver. Samakhushi beat Norbu Linka 60-44. Tenzin Namgyal of Norbu Linka top scored in the match with 13 for the winners but failed to avert his team's defeat. Sunny Gurung scored 11 points for Samakhushi. Likewise, Alex Tamang netted 19 points as Trinity outplayed Royals 68-37, while Unique defeated Pentagon 68-54. Ravi Giri scored 17 for Pentagon and Jenish Thapaliya netted 11 for Unique. Also, Baylor Boys beat GAA 57-42 in which Bishwesh Ghimire scored 14 for the winners and Nitesh Linka netted 12 for the hosts.
Rosebud triumph
KATHMANDU: Rosebud School registered a 22-18 win over Arniko in the senior girls' section match at the fifth RAA Inter-school Basketball Tournament here on Friday. Swati scored 14 points for the winners. Bagh Bhairab, Panga, Rara Hill 'A' and Arniko School won their senior boys' matches. Bagh Bhairab defeated Creative 32-30 riding on 17 points from Ranjit Maharjan while Prosesh netted 19 points as Panga sneaked past Rara Hill 'B' 48-21. Raju Maharjan posted 21 points in Rara Hill ‘A’ team's 71-53 win over Ideal Model and Arniko School overcame Carribean 51-35 with Asim scoring 16 points for the winners.
