Araniko, Panga win

KATHMANDU: Arniko School and Panga School registered wins in the RAA Inter-school Basketball Tournament. In senior boys' section, Araniko overcame hosts Rara Hill 'A' 51-32 while Panga registered a 62-49 win over Puspasadan. In senior girls' matches, Rara Hill 'A' beat Arniko 28-8, Ideal Model beat Rara Hill 'B' 33-15 and Rose Bud beat Creative 21-4.

Timsina meets Ashok

KATHMANDU: Vice President of National Sports Council Pitambar Timsina met with taekwondo player Ashok Khadka in a hospital on Thursday. Timsina inquired about the health of Khadka, who is undergoing treatment for his injured leg, and assured of all possible help from the sports governing body. Khadka sustained injury while participating in the second International Taekwondo Tournament in Lucknow. Khadka has gone under the knife 10 times since the injury and is scheduled for yet another operation on Friday.

Fr Watrin Basketball

KATHMANDU: Golden Gate, Whitefield, Xavier International and Pentagon registered wins at the GAA sixth Fr Watrin Men's Basketball Tournament. Golden Gate thrashed PYC 107-39; Whitefield defeated Norbulinka 60-44; Xavier International outplayed Royals 83-16; and Pentagon beat Baylor Boys of Kavre 64-47.

Nepal lose to India

KATHMANDU: Nepal lost to India 4-0 in the Asian Team Chess Championship in Kolkata. Monalisa Khumbhu lost to Gomez Mary Ann; Namrata Chudal bowed down to Mohoto Nisha; Ashmita Adhikari was beaten Padminit Rout; and Bisakha Jaiswal was undone by Bhakti Kulkarni.

Committee formed

KATHMANDU: A nine-member Kathmandu District Taekwondo (ITF) Committee has been formed under Sudev Jung Pandit. Sanjay Kumar Shrestha and Bibek Lama are the vice presidents. Shankar Dev Shrestha has been nominated as secretary and Nirmala Gurung the treasurer.

Akhil Cup

LALITPUR: Golden Gate defeated KNK College 6-0 and entered the quarter-finals of the Akhil Cup Valleywide Inter-college Football Tournament here on Thursday. Ujjwol Shrestha struck twice, while Bishal Rai, Ganesh Khadka, Rabi Thapa and Rohit Chand netted one goal for the winners. In the day's other matches, Amrit Science College (ASCOL) beat Baneshwor HS School 1-0 add Pinnacle thrashed Trinity College 5-1.
