Gyanu Baba triumph
KATHMANDU: Defending champions Gyanu Baba of Pokhara registered two wins in the fourth Dhorpata Blue Sky Cup Women’s Double League Volleyball Tournament. Gyanu Baba defeated Angel Hearts 25-11, 25-22, 25-12 in their first match and outplayed the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Sports Club 25-11, 25-10, 25-15. PLA, however, came back to register a 17-25, 25-20, 25-11, 25-19 win over Deep Jyoti. Fishtail Academy of Pokhara defeated Deep Jyoti 25-8, 25-20, 25-8.
Hosts dominate
BHAKTAPUR: Hosts Kwapring English School dominated the second day of first Khwapring Cup Inter-school Chess Tournament leading in all categories here on Friday. Mira Kakshyapati of Khwapring led the open girls’ section with 4.5 points defeating Sabina Duwal and Sirjana Bista in the third and fourth rounds and drawing with Namrata Dhakal in the fifth. Shree Krishna Prajapati defeated Bibek Rana, Bibek Lama and Bijaya Raj Aryal in the day’s three rounds to go atop senior boys category along with Himal Lama of Mahankal collecting five points. Lama defeated Suman Bashi, Anil Silpakar and Deep Mushykha. Raj Prajapati led the junior boys’ table with five points outplaying Anup Panta, Suraj Lohani and Bikesh Lakhe.
Kits for NHA
KATHMANDU: The International Handball Federation (IHF) provided the Nepal Handball Association (NHA) with handball kits worth Rs 500,000, under the development aid. According to the NHA, the IHF provided 280 handballs, referee kits and first aid kits. Also, Japan Handball Association gave 20 handballs to the NHA. The NHA president Tej Gurung said the received kits would be distributed to different district associations and coaches.
Ace, Prime win
LALITPUR: Ace Institute of Mangement, defending champions Prime, Trinity and Grammar registered wins in the Professional Gyan Carnival Inter-college Basketball Tournament. Jimmy Sherpa posted 17 points as Ace defeated NCCS 55-12. Prime College outplayed KNK College 71-20 riding on 19 points from Ketan Khadka while Grammar Public beat Galaxy 40-23 with Sudarshan Chaulagain netting 16 points. Also, Trinity College defeated VS Niketan 61-59 in a thriller. Nawang Limbu Sherpa scored 15 points for Trinity.
