Nepal bow out

KATHMANDU: Nepal national team crashed out of the semi-finals of the Bodoland Martyrs Memorial Gold Cup International Invitational Volleyball Tournament in Assam on Saturday. Nepal lost in straight sets 22-25, 20-25, 25-27 against the Kokrajhar BTC. The touring national team entered the last four with three wins in the previous rounds.

Rana wins 3km race

KATHMANDU: Bikram Bahadur Rana won the 3km race for the visually impaired athletes. Shree Prasad Gimire and Sandesh Ghimire won the second and third place in the event organised by the Nepal Paralympic Committee. The top three finishers won Rs 7,000, Rs 6,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively while the remaining nine participants also earned Rs 500 each. A total of 13 athletes from 12 districts participated in the event. The athletes travelled the 3km distance with the help of their guide runners.

Kotdevi claim title

BHAKTAPUR: Kiran Pandey scored the solitary goal as Kotdevi School beat New Star 1-0 to win the fourth FECA Cup Inter-school Football Tournament. The tournament’s best goalkeeper Shankar Dahal of New Star was adjudged the man of the match while Kiran Thakuri of Kotdevi won the best player’s award. Suman Dahal of New Star won the highest scorer’s award with six goals. Manohara School won the fair play award.

St Xavier’s triumph

LALITPUR: Hosts St Xavier’s Godavari and Godavari (red) won their matches of the fourth Fr Moran Memorial Invitational Inter-school Football Tournament. The hosts registered a 1-0 win over LRI. Godavari (red) earned a walkover win from Rato Bangala. A total of 15 schools are participating in the tournament.

White House into final

LALITPUR: White House College defeated Xavier International College 3-1 to reach the final of the first Friendship Football Cup. Sanjeev Rijal, Asim Jung Karki and Santosh Rai scored a goal each for White House. Bibhushan KC replied for Xavier. Pinnacle College, meanwhile, defeated Kathmandu Don Bosco 5-0 to reach the semi-finals. Ramesh Shahi scored a hat-trick while Dipesh Jha and Suraj Budhapriti added one goal apiece.

Daffodil through

KATHMANDU: Daffodil, Gauri Shankar, Reliance and Unique reached the junior boys’ semi-finals of the fifth Unique Inter-school Valleywide Basketball Tournament. Daffodil thrashed Galaxy 25-2, Gauri Shankar beat Grammar 12-9, Reliance eased past Jagat Mandir 24-10 and Unique beat Wilson 31-16. The hosts ‘A’ and ‘B’ team also made into the senior boys three-on-three semi-finals along with Galaxy and NIMS. Unique ‘A’ and ‘B’ registered identical 33-20 win over Reliance and Constellation. Galaxy beat NOBS 22-20 and NIMS defeated Unique ‘C’ 33-28.

LA, SVI enter semis

LALITPUR: Little Angels’ (LA) School and Siddhartha Vanasthali Institute (SVI) reached the semi-finals of the football tournament held under the 16th Eicher Gyan Carnival. LA outplayed Gyan Shikha 4-0, while SVI ended hosts Gyanodaya’s challenge with a 2-0 victory. Meanwhile, Bouddha advanced to the last four earning a walkover win from Bright Future. In the boys’ basketball, SVI defeated Gyanodaya 57-55. The hosts beat LA 25-22 in the girls’ section match.

SEB, AIA advance

KATHMANDU: SEB School and Awareness International Academy (AIA) advanced to the quarter-finals of the second Newton Valleywide Inter-school Volleyball Tournament. In the girls’ section, SEB saw off Sapta Gandaki 25-11, 25-18 while AIA crushed the same team 22-25, 25-22, 25-17. Venus edged past Annal Jyoti 26-24, 25-11, Newton defeated Kamana 25-14, 16-25, 25-11 but later lost to Angel Heart 25-18, 25-11. In the only boys’ section match, Newton ‘A’ saw off Pushpa Kunja 25-5, 25-5.
