SEB School claim boys’ trophy

LALITPUR: Samakhushi English Boarding (SEB) School, New Diamond and Newton School claimed championships of the ninth Annal Jyoti Running Cup Inter-school Volleyball Tournament here on Saturday. SEB School clinched the boys’ section title with a 25-23, 25-22, 25-19 victory over Newton. Hosts Annal Jyoti had to content for the third place. In the girls’ final, New Diamond once again deprived hosts of the title with a 25-9, 25-18, 25-17 victory. Angels’ Heart won the third place play off. In another final match Newton struggled for a 23-25, 25-23, 25-23, 20-25, 15-8 win over Annal Jyoti ‘A’ to claim the mini-boys’ title. Gyanodaya finished third in the event. Sher Lal Poudel of SEB and Ramila Tandukar of New Diamond were adjudged the best players in boys and girls category respectively. Bhupal Rai from Annal Jyoti ‘A’ was declared the best player in the mini-boys category.

NIMS win Gurukul Football Cup

KATHMANDU: Nitin International Memorial School (NIMS) on Saturday won the Gurukul Girls’ Football Cup. In the final clash, NIMS defeated Toru (Gujeshwori) 2-0. Srijana Khadka gave NIMS the lead in the ninth minute before Bijaya Karki’s goal in 36th minute sealed the match for them. Sunita Tamang was adjudged the Player of the Match. NIMS received a cash prize of Rs 10,000 while Toru took home Rs 5,000. The losing semi-finalists, Shubhakmana and Kathmandu Football Academy got Rs 2,000 each. Binita Tamang of Gurukul was declared the best player of the tournament while Swasti Karki, also of Gurukul, won the best goalkeeper award.
