Karate Selection
KATHMANDU: The National selection tournament for the karate players to participate in the 11th South Asian Games in Dhaka early next year will begin from Monday in Hetauda. Participants from the five development regions, Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and People’s Liberation Army will try their luck in the selection tournament organised by the Nepal Karate Federation (NKF). Karatekas in the 55, 60, 67 and 75kgs in men’s section and 55 and 61kgs in women’s sections will be selected for the January 29 to February 9 regional meet. Six events in men’s kata and four events in women’s kata are also included in the tournament. Out of 144 players in the two-day selection tournament, only 16 players will book their tickets to Dhaka. Meanwhile, the Nationwide Referee Technical Seminar organised by the NKF concluded on Sunday. — HNS
NIMS win
KATHMANDU: Shubhakama School and NIMS won their matches of the Gurukul Girls Football Cup on Sunday. Shubhakama beat Sunflower 3-0 after Saraswati Duwadi scored a brace and Kajal Dawale added another. NIMS ended Raja Memorial School’s challenge with a slim 2-1 win. Sanchita Koirala scored a goal for NIMS while they earned another on courtesy of Rajan Memorial player. Babita Bhandari replied for the losing team. In another match, Sunita Lama scored as Toru Gujeswori registered a 1-0 win over St Joseph School. Likewise, Nepal Rastriya Higher Secondary School and Societal English High School played a goalless draw. — HNS
Everest Bank win
KATHMANDU: Everest Bank won the Riverside Spring Resort Corporate Beach Volleyball Tournament on Sunday. Held at the Trishuli river bank, Everest Bank defeated defending champions Annapurna Hotel 21-19, 10-21, 18-15. Arun Sanjel of Everest was declared the best player. Earlier in the semi-finals, Everst saw off Himal Media 21-8, 21-15 and Annapurna defeated Manakamana Darshan Pvt Ltd 21-19, 21-13 . Jayendra Shah of Everest Insurance was named the most stylish player. — HNS
Volleyball tourney
KATHMANDU: Annaljyoti School is organising the ninth Annaljyoti Volleyball Cup from November 18-21. In all, 22 teams - 12 in men and 10 in women’s sections — along with 12 mini volleyball teams will participate in the tournament. — HNS
New Zenith win
KATHMANDU: New Zenith
and Kantipur School claimed the titles of the second Odyssey Inter-school Junior Boys and Girls Basketball Tournament. In the boys’ final, New Zenith beat NIMS 55-31. Dinkar Jung Bhandari, who was later named the Most Valuable Player (MVP), posted 35 points for New Zenith. In the girls’ final, Kantipur defeated NIMS 28-22 riding on 14 points from Ronahi Limu. Samikshya Neupane of NIMS won the MVP award. — HNS
