Machhindra upset APF

Kathmandu, November 22:

Machhindra Energizer Football Club upset Armed Police Force (APF) Officers’ Club 2-1 while Ananta Thapa rescued Mahendra Police Club in their 1-0 win over the newly promoted Saraswoti Youth Club in the Martyrs’ Memorial San Miguel ‘A’ Division League Football today.

Azad Pradhan and Babulal Hasda scored for Machhindra while Jivesh Pandey scored for the APF. Pradhan gave Machhindra the unexpected lead when he scored a stunning 30-yard freekick in the 7th minute.

APF kept on pressing for the equaliser and found one in the 65th minute as Pandey headed home from close range but not before wasting three clear goalscoring chances. Mani Pandit hit the woodwork in the 21st minute and a APF defender cleared Pandey’s shot from the goalline three minutes later. Ajay Silwal had a free goalscoring chance in the 62nd minute but shot straight to goalie Kiran Limbu.

APF would have taken the lead had not Mani Pandit’s strike rebounded off the inner crossbar in the 75th minute. It wasn’t APF’s day, however, as former Mahabir player Babulal Hasda found the winner in his debut match for his new club in the 78th minute. Hasda, who was left unmarked, just needed a tap following a cross from Numal Tamang. Numang Tamang won the Adidas man of the match award.

MPC had a tough time beating Saraswoti as Ananta Thapa rescued the departmental team scoring in the 54th minute. Ananta scored capitalising on a misunderstanding between Saraswoti goalie Channu Ram Chaudhary and defender Deepak Thapa to head home the winner. Nabil Three Star will take on Tribhuvan Army Club in the next match on Saturday.
