Futsal league kicks off

KATHMANDU: The Mahila Premier League, Nepal’s first-ever women’s futsal league, began here at the Grassroots Recreational Centre in Mandikatar on Saturday.

A total of eight teams are taking part in the tournament organised by WE United Project and supported by European Union and HamroKitchen.com. “The League is a fully women-run initiative — played by women, organised by women and officiated by women.

Over the course of eight weeks, eight teams will compete for the title of Kathmandu’s best women’s futsal team in order to promote a culture of competition, camaraderie, and collaboration in Nepali women’s futsal,” said the organisers in a release.

Go Sports Nepal, Real Madrid, Leeyash and ABC Girls won their matches played on Saturday. After the round-robin league over the period of eight weeks, top three teams will receive gift hampers.
