JHAPA: Laxmi Hyundai Manang Marshyangdi Club advanced to the semi-finals of the second Satakshi Gold Cup Football Tournament here on Sunday.

MMC defeated Rupandehi-XI 4-1 in penalty shootout. The match went to spotkick battle after both the teams were deadlocked at 1-1 draw in regulation and extra time.

Bimal Basnet, Kamal Shrestha, Nirajan Malla and Dona Thapa converted their shots from the spot for MMC, while Rupandehi’s Niraj Basnet was lone player to score goal on penalties.

Rajin Dhimal hit wide and Bijay Dhimal was denied by MMC goalkeeper Dinesh Thapa Magar.

Earlier, Cedric Aba opened the scoring for Rupandehi in the sixth minute before MMC’s Dona Thapa levelled the tally in the 87th minute.

MMC’s Dona Thapa was named the man-of-the-match and got Rs 10,000. In Monday’s semi-final match, Rumpum Jhapa-XI will play against Nepal Police Club.
