Bhairahawa/Birgunj, June 7:
The match between Region No 4 (Bhairahawa) and Region No 6 (Baitadi) ended in a draw on the final day of the Shikhar Two-day National Cricket League here at the Siddhartha Stadium today.
Chasing a target of 243 runs, Bhairahawa were 26/3 in their second innings. Basanta Regmi hit five fours in his unbeaten 23 off 12 balls.
Earlier, Baitadi declared their second innings at 127/6 setting a mammoth target for Bhairahawa, who scored 218/5 in reply to Baitadi’s first innings total of 233/9 declared. In Bhairahawa’s first innings, Shakti Gauchan scored a century hitting 11 fours and a six, while Rijan Praju was unbeaten on 37.
In Baitadi’s second innings, Prem Chaudhary hammered eight fours in his 54. Bijay Thapa took three, while Basanta Regmi claimed two wickets for Bhairahawa. Gauchan was named the man of the match. Bhairahawa earned 12 points while Baitadi accumulated 10 points.
At Narayani Stadium in Birgunj, the match between Region No 3 (Kathmandu) and Region No 1 (Biratnagar) ended in a draw.
Biratnagar, who scored 207/8 in the first innings, bowled out Kathmandu for 139 runs. Biratnagar declared their second innings at 84/3 setting a target of 153 runs in 11 overs and Kathmandu reached 45/3 at close. Resuming five hours late due to overnight rain, Kathmandu added 27 runs to their overnight total of 112/8 in the first innings. Paresh Lohani, who was unbeaten on 61, was out for 78.
Biratnagar’s Mehboob Alam, who took nine wickets in the match, was named the man of the match. Biratnagar earned 12 points, while Kathmandu got 8.5.
Event rescheduled
KATHMANDU: The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) rescheduled the Shikhar Two-day National Cricket League. After playing three matches in Bhairahawa and Birgunj, the tournament will resume on September 18 in Kathmandu. CAN cited technical reasons for rescheduling the event. Before that, the senior team will play one-day national tournament in Kathmandu from July 15. CAN spokesperson Tarak Mani Dixit also said that national team will tour Kuwait for the ACC Twenty20 Cup from November 3. — HNS
