MMC outplay ANFA U-16, enter semis
POKHARA: Manang Marshyangdi Club reached to the semi-finals of the eighth Aaha Gold Cup Football Tournament with a comprehensive 4-1 win over ANFA Under-16 Team here at the Pokhara Stadium today.
MMC were scheduled to play against the Dhaka Sporting Club of Bangladesh in the quarters but found relatively weaker opponent after the Bangladeshi team pulled out at the last moment. MMC will now take on title favorites Nepal Police Club in Wednesday's semi-final.
MMC had no trouble defeating U-16 team who looked exhausted following their 4:00am arrival in Pokhara. Man of the match Shiva Shrestha scored a brace while Dipak Bhushal and Sujal Shrestha added one each. Hem Tamang replied for U-16 team.
Dipak gave MMC the 27th minute lead with a free kick that stunned ANFA goalie Laxman Thapa. Shiva then doubled the lead two minutes later finishing from the goal line.
The junior boys of ANFA Academy bounced back in the 50th minute with Hem cashing in on a cross from striker Amar Dangol. MMC shifted their gears after conceding the goal. Sujal brought the third in the 70th minute on a supply from Niraj Magar. Shiva's brace came in the 73rd minute after he made no mistake converting a cross from Sujal.
In tournament’s last quarter-final on Tuesday, New Road Team will play Sahara Club of UK .
