Monthly trail race series to begin in Kathmandu next week

KATHMANDU: With a mission to promote trail race in Nepal, the Trail Running Nepal is beginning a monthly running series in Kathmandu next week.

The People’s Choice National Geographic Adventurer of the Year 2017, Mira Rai, is also a part of the organisers.

Issuing a press statement, the event's manager Preeti Khattri informed that the first edition of the Kathmandu Trail Race Series--Seto Gumba Loop 11 km--would be held on February 18.

The series aims to identify talented trail runners in Nepal, according to the organisers.

“I think there are runners in Nepal better than me, we just have to give them a chance to show themselves,” said Rai in the statement.

“I want to give everyone the chance to try a trail race, so we need to start with something everyone can try.”

“The courses are short so that anyone wanting a challenge can complete,” Khattri added.

Race finishers will also receive points and they are calculated to determine rankings in the series, the organisers said.

"The team is working with international sponsors to secure cash and professional running equipment prizes for the final top ranking runners."

Meanwhile, the enthusiasts have been called to register themselves by February 15.
