Morang XI win inaugural

Morang XI defeated hosts Dharan ‘blue’ 4-2 in tie breaker and booked a place in the last eight of the seventh Budha Subba Gold Cup Football Tournament, here at Dharan Stadium today. The match went into an extra time after both teams failed to break 2-2 deadlock in the added 30 minutes. Kendra Limbu opened the scoring for Dharan ‘blue’ in the fourth minute. Limbu headed home the first goal following a pass from striker Sanjeev Tamang. In the 18th minute, Binod Lama of Morang XI scored an equaliser. Binay Chaudhari, in the 75th minute, put Dharan ahead and 10 minutes later, Raju Rai of Dharan made it 2-2. After both teams failed to add to the tally, the match went into tie-breaker. While Dharan skipper Sagar Ghimire and Kendra Limbu failed to convert the spot kicks, Raju Rai and Janak Sunuwar converted in the penalties. For Morang, Binay Chaudhari, Bhola Silwal, Madan Rai and Komal Khawas scored. Now, Morang XI will take on national league champions Three Star Club in the quarter-finals.
