National cricket team off to Jersey
Kathmandu, May 16:
The 16-member Nepali national cricket team today left for Jersey to take part in the ICC World Cricket League Division-V slated for May 21-31.
Allrounder Binod Das is the captain and Paras Khadka his deputy. Others in the squad are Paresh Lohani, Shakti Gauchan, Mehboob Alam, Sanjam Regmi, Sharad Vesawkar, Dipendra Chaudhary, Gyanendra Malla, Mahesh Chhetri, Raj Kumar Pradhan, Amrit Bhattarai, Basanta Regmi and Dhirendra Chand. Former Sri Lankan Test player Roy Luke Dias (coach) and CAN general secretary Tanka Prasad Paneru (manager) are also in the team.
Nepal are pitted against Mozambique, the United States, Germany, Norway and Vanuata in Group A while Group B comprises of Afghanistan, Japan, hosts Jersey, Singapore, Bahamas and Botswana. Top two teams will qualify for the WCL Division-IV.
Nepal will open their campaign against Mozambique in Grainville on Many 24 before taking on Norway at the Farmers Field on May 26.
The Nepali side will play their third league match against Vanuata at the Victoria College the next day before facing the United States at Les Quennevais on May 28.
Prior to the Jersey tournament, the Nepali team is scheduled to play two warm up matches against Bahamas on May 19 and Guernsey in Guernsey Island on May 21.
As the preparation for the tournament, Nepal played an one-day match against Dhaka Club Limited on May 2 before playing three one-dayers with Pakistan Cricket Board Academy Team on May 8, 9 and 11 in Kathmandu.
