Shiva Ram seventh

KATHMANDU: Nepal’s top professional golfer Shiva Ram Shrestha finished tied seventh at the Aircel-PGTI Qualifying School 2010 in Gurgaon on Friday. Shiva Ram, who played four over 76 on the final day, wrapped up the event with a total of 292, along with Amritinder Singh, Balbir Singh Verma, Anirudh Goyal and Rajiv Kumar Jatiwal. The result earned Shiva Ram the full card for the 2010 season of the Indian tour for the third year in a row. Matloob Ahmed Rana won the event with two-under 286.

Six medals for Nepal

KATHMANDU: Nepali karate players won three silver and as many bronze medals at the Asian Gojuryu Karate Tournament held in Malaysia from December 4-6. Prakash Kumar Chand, Ompu Lama and Arun SK claimed silver medals, while Pemba Tamang, Hikmat Thapaliya and Sonam Chhiting Tamang won bronze. According to the General Secretary of Nepal Gojuryu Karate Do Association BR Mitra, Nepal also earned the hosting rights of the third Asian Gojuryu Karate Tournament. — HNS

First LA Karate

LALITPUR: Pujan Shrestha of Little Angels’ and Udip Shrestha of New Horizon claimed gold medals on the inaugural day of the first LA Inter-school Official Karate Tournament. Pujan defeated Chhomba Sherpa in the 40kg final, while Udip beat Roshan Nepal in 20kg final. Other gold medal winners in boys section included Aman Shrestha (25kg), Nilesh Maharjan (30), Prabin Manandhar (35) and Usef Pradhan (45kg). Likewise, Barsha Khatiwada (25kg), Rojina Bista (30), Radha Manandhar (35) and Urmila DC (40kg) claimed gold medals in girls’ section.

Fr Moran Cup

LALITPUR: Puspanjali and Little Angels’ entered the quarter-finals of the 14th Fr Moran Memorial Invitational Inter-school Football Tournament organised by St Xavier’s Godavari. Biswas Bhandari scored six goals and Soloman Chhinal and Ashish Magar netted one each as Puspanjali hammered Kathmandu University School 8-0. In the other match, LA defeated Green Lawn 2-0 on goals from Rojan KC and Prashanta Awasthi.

Mahendra Ratna win

LALITPUR: Kathmandu Engineering College (KEC), Mahendra Ratna Campus and Daya Devkota College won their matches of the Akhil Cup Inter-college Football Tournament. In the first match, Anoj Dangol scored a hat-trick as KEC defeated Pashupati Multiple College 4-1. Saroj Jeet Kathayat added another goal. Abhinash Tamang replied for Pashupati. Mahendra Ratna defeated Einstein College 6-1 after Ajaya Kapali struck a hat-trick. Krishna Tamang, Binaya Maharjan and Santosh Paudel also scored for Mahendra Ratna. Som Bahadur Tamang’s goal consoled Einstein. Daya Devkota eased past Ace Institute of Management 3-0 with a brace from Amar Kunwar. Prajeet Magar added another goal.

Mini Basketball

KATHMANDU: HIMS, Shangrila and New Shrine advanced to the quarter-finals of the first Midland Inter-school Mini Boys Basketball Tournament. HIMS beat Unique 34-20, Shangrila beat Cyprus 31-18, and New Shrine beat Gyan Mandir 46-6.

NIMS Basketball

KATHMANDU: Mount Kailash, Unique, Siddhartha Vanasthali and hosts NIMS ‘A’ entered the senior boys’ section semi-finals of the

first Niten Thakuri Memorial Inter-school Basketball Tournament. On Friday, Mt Kailash defeated Galaxy

28-26, Unique hammered Reliance 50-31, Vanasthali beat NIMS ‘B’ 41-31, and the hosts ‘A’ team overwhelmed Daffodil 54-24.
