NEA claim volleyball championship

KATHMANDU: Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) claimed the women’s volleyball championship here in the first Inter-Enterprises Sports Tournament.

The NEA beat Nepal Sanskritik Sansthan in straight sets 28-26, 25-18 in final. The National Sports Council (NSC) defeated Nepal Television 25-22, 20-25, 25-15 to win the third-place decider. Anju Adhikari and Raju Maharjan won the singles championships in badminton. NEA’s Anju overcame NSC’s Shanti Singh 21-18, 21-15 in the women’s singles final while Raju saw off Chandra Shekhar of Nepal Bank 21-16, 22-20 in the men’s singles final.

Likewise, Guddi Karki and Sabina Pradhan of Nepal Telecom dispatched the NEA duo Anju Adhikari and Shanti Laxmi Shakya 21-11, 21-11 to clinch the women’s doubles badminton title. Raju Maharjan and Umesh Kumar Bhandari of NEA claimed the men’s doubles championship after NTV’s Surendra Raj Baniya’s partner Sudip Budhathoki pulled out of the match due to injury. Chandra Shekhar of Nepal Bank won the veterans’ singles title with a 21-3, 21-6 win over Birendra Lal Shrestha of NEA.

In the clash between the Agriculture Development Bank Limited (ADBL), Anil Kumar Upadhayaya beat Nepal Bhusan Gouli 13-21, 23-21, 21-8 to claim the executive men’s singles final. Anil Kumar Upadhayaya and Nepal Bhusan of ADBL saw off Gopal Babu Bhattarai and Dandapani Basyal of NEA 21-2, 21-13 to win the executive men’s doubles title.

Madan Bir Singh Dangol of Nepal Bank won the chess championship after defeating Krishna Raj Khanal of Gorkhapatra Sansthan in the seventh round. Madan Bir Singh had played a draw against Suman Kumar Baidhya in the sixth round. Madan Bir Singh and Triratna Shakya of NEA both finished with 5.5 points but the former claimed the title on better progressive points. Madan Bir Singh earned 24.5 while Triratna accumulated 22.5 progressive points. Purna Kumar Shrestha of Nepal Telecom finished third.
