Nepal APF Club clinch 11 golds
Kathmandu, February 2:
Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club dominated the Nationwide Open Men’s and Women’s Boxing Championship winning 11 out of 18 gold medals today.
Nepal Police Club (NPC) bagged three while Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC), Eastern Region Boxing Association (ERBA), Nepal Youth Boxing Group (NYBG) and Makwanpur claimed one gold medal each. The lone Armyman to win gold medal, Devendra Raj Singh Thakuri
was declared the best player in men’s
section. Singh defeated Yukesh Nagarkoti in the 54kg final. Anuradha Lama,
who beat Dhani Thapa for the 57kg gold medal, won the best player award in women’s section.
Sachit Raut (48kg), Laxuman Tamang (51kg), Ajit Gurung (60kg), Sushil Ghimire (64kg) and Devendra Maharjan (69kg) won gold for APF in the men’s section while Mala Rai (46kg), Maya Chaudhary (48kg), Sumitra Napit (50kg), Muga Maya Pakhrin (52kg), Sanju Lama (54kg) and Deepa Chhetry (60kg) earned gold medals in the women’s section.
Sachit defeated Bimal Kumar Singh, Laxuman saw off Sudesh Manandhar, Ajit beat clubmate Bikash Bal Lama, Devendra Maharjan overcame Sudhan Gurung while Sushil won the match on RSC over Bhupendra Bachhunje. Likewise, Mala Rai defeated Suraj Muni Hemram, Maya overcame Pramila Pandey, Sumitra dispatched Prava Rajali, Muga Maya saw off Manju Nagarkoti, Sanju outplayed Indu Nagarkoti and Deepa beat Asha Hamal.
Minas Rai (women’s 63kg) and Dinesh Shrestha (men’s 57kg) also won gold medals for NPC. Also winning the gold medals were Jutin Hemram (men’s 45kg) of ERBA, Rajan Shilpakar (men’s 75kg) of Makawanpur and Deepak Maharjan of NYBG. Jutin overcame Ganesh Budhathoki, Rajan was awarded the gold after Ujjwol Singh Thapa of TAC sustained injury while Deepak won after Mahesh KC of APF was declared medically unfit.
