APF, TAC advance to Super League

Lalitpur, January 3

Nepal APF Club and Tribhuvan Army Club advanced to the Super League of the 16th National Women’s Football League under the NSC Championship here at the ANFA Complex grounds today.

APF outplayed Western Region 14-0, while TAC thrashed Mid-western Region 12-0 in Group B matches. With their second consecutive wins the departmental sides confirmed berths in the next round with six points each.

In the previous round, APF had thrashed Mid-west 26-0 and TAC recorded a 12-0 win over Western. The results meant Western and Mid-western teams are knocked out of the competition as both teams faced defeats in two matches.

In the day’s second match, APF saw off Western by a huge margin riding on eight goals from Sabitra Bhandari. Rekha Paudel and Anita KC scored two each, while Renuka Nagarkoti and Anita Basnet netted a goal apiece.

Bhandari, who scored 12 goals against Mid-western Region on Monday, netted four goals each in two halves. Bhandari opened the scoring in the sixth minute and added in the 27th, 33rd and injury time of first half. The national team striker the found the back of the nets in the 50th, 54th, 66th and 89th minutes.

Similarly, Paudel netted in the 37th and 40th minutes, while KC found the back of the nets in the 58th and 59th minutes. Nagarkoti added a goal in the 65th and Basnet netted a goal in the 77th minute.

Earlier, TAC slammed a dozen goals against Mid-western. Sapana Lama and Sharmila Thapa Magar scored four goals each, while skipper Krishna Khatri and Dipa Rai added two apiece. Thapa Magar opened the scoring in fourth minute and added three goals in 26th, 35th and injury time of second half. Lama scored in the 38th, 53rd, 76th and 85th minutes.

Similarly, skipper Khatri found the back of the nets in the 11th and 80th minutes, while Rai added two goals in the 25th and 29th minutes.

The match between APF and TAC slated for Friday will decide the group winners.

On Thursday, Far-western Region will play against Central Region, while Nepal Police Club will take on Eastern Region in Group A matches.
