Nepal Asian Satellite Badminton Championship begins on June 7

Nepal Badminton Association is organising the Nepal Asian Satellite Badminton Championship from June 7-11 at the National Sports Council hall. The five-day international tournament, under the sponsorship of Samsung marketed by Golchha Organisation, is the first of its kind in Nepal. In all, 30 players — 17 men and 13 women from Nepal, Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh — are competing for five titles — Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles. From Nepal, 14 athletes including eight in men’s and six in women’s category are taking part. Out of the estimated cost of Rs 3.8 million, a total of Rs 497,000 will be distributed among the winners, said the organisers at a press meet today. The Asian Badminton Confederation has allocated Rs 355,000, while the organisers aim to cover the rest of the amount from co-sponsors, Morang Auto Works, Rashtriya Banijya Bank, Surya Nepal, San Miguel, Mayos of Himalayan Snax and Noodles, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force. The organisers also informed that Yonex Company, National Sports Council, Hotel Association of Nepal, Nepal Tourism Board, Channel Nepal, Cosmic Air, Pepsi, Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), Royal Nepal Airlines Corporation and Bhat Bhateni Supermarket have agreed to support the tournament technically. The association has also formed a main organising committee under the chairmanship of NBA president Prakash Bahadur Shahi for the grand success of the 5-day tournament.
