KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 18
Nepal national women's cricket team thrashed Qatar by 109 runs to clean sweep the threematch Twenty20 International Series in Doha today.
Batting first, Nepal amassed 164-3 riding on record half century by Sita Rana Magar before packing the hosts to 55-7 in the third and final match of the maiden T20I bilateral series.
Nepal had won the first two matches by 119 runs and 61 runs respectively.
Vice-captain Sita Rana Magar became the third Nepali batter to score a half century in the series. Indu Barma created history in the first match scoring 47-ball 55, while skipper Rubina Chhetry became the second Nepali batter with 48- ball 50 yesterday. Rana Magar became the highest scorer with an unbeaten 82 off 72 balls that included seven boundaries.
Nepal openers Kajal Shrestha (seven) and Rana Magar put up 32 runs before the former was dismissed in the fifth over.
Rana Magar and Jyoti Pandey added 67 runs for the second wicket to take the team score close to three figures. Pandey struck a four in her 20-ball 24.
After Dolly Bhatta (12) was out in the first ball of the 16th over, player-of-the-match Rana Magar and Sarita Magar added 42 runs for the unbroken fourth wicket. Sarita Magar remained unbeaten on 1-ball 17 that included a four.
Angeline Mare, Saachi Dhadwal and skipper Aysha took one wicket each for the home team. In reply, the home team survived full 20 overs although only two batters could score in double figures.
Aleena Khan top scored with 19 off 33 balls, while skipper Aysha struck one each four and six in his 14-ball 13. Sabnam Rai, Saraswati Kumari and skipper Chhetry took one wicket each for Nepal. Chhetry, who scored 50 runs and took six wickets, was adjudged the player of the series. The Nepali team is scheduled to leave for the UAE on Friday to participate in the ICC T20 World Cup Asia Qualifiers slated for November 22-28.
