Nepal defeat UAE in ICC Women's Asia Qualifier

KATHMANDU: Nepal defeated the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to win its third match under the ICC Women T20 World Cup Qualifier Asia-2019 going on in Thailand.

In the match held today at Terdthai Cricket Ground, Nepal met a target of 42 runs scored by the UAE in 10.2 overs at a loss of three wickets.

Captain of the Nepali team, Rubina Chhetri contributed the maximum runs by scoring 18 runs to the team while Kajal Shrestha made 15 runs and Sarita Rana Magar played with six runs. Prior to this, the UAE winning the toss, chose to bat first and finished the term by losing all the wickets in 17.3 overs with just 41 runs to its account.

No batswoman from the UAE except Chamani Roshini, with 13 runs, succeeded in making a double-digit run. Nepal's Neri Thapa alone took four wickets while Sita Rana Magar, Sonu Khadka and Krishna Kunwar each took two wickets.

With the latest victory, Nepal has so far collected four points. In the three matches it played so far, it faced defeat in one. The UAE also has four points.

Nepal will meet Hong Kong on February 24 for the next match; China on February 25, and Kuwait on February 27.

A total of seven countries from Asia are competing for the title and the winning team will be qualified to play in the ICC T20 Qualifier.
