Nepal eye big win over Malaysia

Kathmandu, November 13

A day after recording a historic victory against India, the Nepali youth cricket team will be looking for a desired result against Malaysia when they meet the hosts in the final group stage fixture of the ACC U-19 Youth  Asia Cup at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday.

India and Bangladesh will face each other in the day’s another encounter and the last round matches are equally important for all the four teams. Bangladesh have four points, while Nepal and India have two each. The hosts are yet to open their accounts but are still alive. Nepal will earn the semi-final berth with a win against Malaysia if Bangladesh beat India. If both Nepal and India win their matches, net run rate will come into play.

Nepali team head coach Binod Das said the match against Malaysia will be like a qualifier for his side. “The  main target will be to play the best cricket and win the match by a big margin.  Since the equation will also depend upon other teams’ results too, we will wait for  the first innings to end and then come up with the numbers,” said Das.

Das also wanted to send the messages to the world cricket that Nepal are one of the strong teams. “We need to finish the league round strongly so that we can send message of being a strong side,” he added.

Similarly,  skipper Dipendra Singh Airee, who was the chief architect of Nepal’s  victory against India, said Nepal did not have option than winning  the match. “Bangladesh’s big margin win against Malaysia means the  road for Nepal is a tough one. So our target will be to bundle Malaysia out for a low score or put on a  big total on the board. The outcome of the match between India and  Bangladesh will also matter but we’ll give our best against Malaysia.  The guys are geared up after the win against India,” he said.
