KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 27

Nepal national women's volleyball team remained unbeaten in the league round and topped the table in round-robin league stage of the AVC Central Zone Volleyball Championship in Mirpur, Bangladesh today.

Nepal defeated Kyrgyzstan in straight sets for their fifth consecutive victory in the league. Nepal, who came from two sets down to beat Sri Lanka in the opening match, have not dropped a single set in the last four games. In the one-sided affair against Kyrgyzstan, Nepal took the first set 25-8 before recording a 25-14 win in the second set and took the third set 25-16 to complete the victory.

Nepal, who had also recorded straight set wins over Maldives, Bangladesh and Uzbekistan, accumulated 14 points from five matches top the six-team table.

Uzbekistan finished second with 11 points after their 3-2 victory over Sri Lanka in the day's another match. Sri Lana came third despite being tied with Uzbekistan, while Kyrgyzstan finished fourth on six points. Maldives and Bangladesh failed to open their accounts.

Table-toppers Nepal will now face second-placed Uzbekistan for gold medal on Tuesday, while Sri Lanka will face Kyrgyzstan in the third-place playoff match. Nepal had won the historic gold medal with a 3-0 win over Maldives in the previous edition held in Bangladesh.
