Nepal out of contention

Kathmandu, October 20:

Nepal crashed out of the Merdeka Cup Football Tournament with a humiliating 3-1 defeat against Sierra Leone in Kuala Lumpur today.

Playing against the nine men team for more than 60 minutes, Nepal conceded two late goals. Mamadu Lajor Bah put Sierra Leone ahead in the sixth minute but Nepal drew level in the 40th minute. Striker Jumanu Rai converted the penalty, which Nepal earned when Issa Kamara brought down Anil Gurung inside the box. Kamara’s marching orders meant Sierra Leone were down to nine men as Alfree Sanu was ejected in the 24th minute.

Nepal conceded two goals in the last four minutes. Alusine Turay made it 2-1 in the 88th and Lohai Freeman added the third in the extra time. Nepal lost 4-0 against hosts Malaysia and drew 2-2 against Afghanistan.
