NPC rally to edge past Far-western Region; Central record first victory

Lalitpur, January 2

Nepal  Police Club and Central Region won their Group A matches of the 16th National Women’s Football League under the NSC Championship here at the  ANFA Complex grounds today.

NPC, who had defeated Central Region 6-2  in their opening match, struggled to beat Far-western Region 2-1 to record their second  victory, while Central Region got off the mark with a 4-0 victory over Eastern Region.

The  results meant, NPC are leading the Group A table with six points, while  Central and Far-western, who had defeated Eastern Region 4-0, are tied on two  points. Eastern are yet to open their accounts.

In the day’s first match,  Niru Thapa and Nirmala Upadhyaya scored a goal each for NPC after  Chandra Bhandari had put Far-west ahead in the 16th minute. Thapa levelled the tally in the 57th minute before Upadhyaya scored the winning goal in the 65th minute.

Similarly,  Central Region beat Eastern Region riding on a brace from Rashmi Kumari Ghising. Skipper Menuka Nagarkoti and Sabita Rana Magar scored one each. Ghising opened the scoring in the sixth minute before Nagarkoti double the advantage in the 32nd minute from the spot. Magar then made it 3-0 in the 61st minute and Ghising sealed the victory with her second goal of the match in the 81st minute.

On Wednesday, Tribhuvan Army Club will take on Mid-western, while Nepal APF Club will meet Western Region.
