Nepal face Maldives in SAG football semifinal today
KATHMANDU: Nepal are locking their horns against the Maldives during the second semifinal football match of the 12th South Asian Games in Guwahati of India on Saturday.
The game would start at 7:15 pm (Nepal standard time) at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in Guwahati.
Nepal U-23 team will try to elevate to the final of the SAG football for the fourth time today. Earlier, Nepal had played the finals of SAG football in 1984, 1993 and 1999.
While Nepal were defeated by Bangladesh in 1999, they had earned gold medals in 1984 and 1993.
Nepal football team coach Raju Kaji Shakya told the Rastriya Samachar Samiti that Nepal would defeat the Maldives today in order to knock the door for the gold medal.
In January, Nepal had defeated the Maldives 4-1 in the semifinal of the Bangabandhu Gold Cup, in Dhaka of Bangladesh.
In the SAG group stage, Nepal had defeated Bhutan 5-0 while suffered a 2-1 loss from Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, India beat Bangladesh 3-0 at the first semifinal at the same stadium today. India would face either Nepal or the Maldives in the final.
