Nepal to participate in nine events
Nepal will participate in nine events in the 14th ASIAD to be held in Busan, South Korea during September 29- October 14.
In all, 50 participants in Karate, Taekwondo, Athletics, Boxing, Shooting, Swimming, Weight-lifting, Ushu and Judo are taking part in the Asian games. It was decided in a meeting held at the National Sports Council here on Wednesday under the chairmanship of NSC memer secretary Binod Shankar Palikhe in the presence of participating sports associations’ representatives.
The selection of the players will be done through open competition starting from June 10, said the NSC in a press release on Wednesday. According to the release, the players for Athletics and Weight-lifting will be selected on June 14 and 15, while the selection for Swimming, Ushu, Shooting and Taekwondo will be done from June 12-14.
The selection tournament for Boxing will be held from June 10-14, while the Judo and karate players will be selected from Dhirendra Memorial Judo, karate and kick-boxing tournament that concluded here today.
The press release further states that the selected players from open tournaments will be trained in three round close camps. for a total of 104 days. In all, 166 players will be included in the first round, while the number will be reduced to 114 in the second and 66 in the third round.
From the chair, NSC member secretary Palikhe urged that maximum achievements should be achieved from minimum expenses. “The probable players will be provided training from foreign coaches,” said Palikhe in the meeting attended by NSC members Karma Tsiring Sherpa and Padam Bogati along with presidents and general secretaries of all the nine sports associations.
