Nepal U12 boys face defeat against India in South Asian Qualifier final

KATHMANDU: Nepal’s junior (12 & under) tennis team (Boys) lost the finals against India in ITF Asian Team Championship South Asian Qualifier being held in Dhaka on Saturday.

Although Nepal has already secured a berth in the Asian Team Championship scheduled for August in Kazakhstan, third time in a row, they were forced to settle for the second place behind India today. The Nepali girls' team missed the qualification after their loss to Sri Lanka in the Semis.

In the boys’ singles competition against India, Nepal’s Pranav Manandhar lost 1-6,1-6, while and Aarav was defeated 3-6, 4-6 in straight sets. Both singles players played valiantly but could not pull through at critical points.

In the doubles section, the duo of Aarav Hada and Sakchyam B Shah were leading 3-2 but the match was disrupted by rain eventually to have the doubles match cancelled with the final match score 2-0 for India.

In the girls’ single category for the third position against Bangladesh, Prasamsa Moktan won 7-6 (4), while 6-2 while Eva Adhikari lost 2-6, 2-6. In the doubles, event girls won 6-1, 3-6, 10-7.

The boys’ team is all set for the preparation camp as soon as they return to Kathmandu on June 29th.
