Nepal vs Kenya: Nepal restrict Kenya to 155, Vesawkar takes 4 wickets

KATHMANDU: Nepal national cricket team have restricted Kenya to 155 runs during the first innings of their second match in the ICC World Cricket League Championship at the Tribhuvan University Stadium on Monday.

Sharad Vesawkar showed an outstanding play claiming four wickets. He first took Irfan Karim's (38) wicket at 30.4 overs.

Vesawkar also made a hat-trick as he claimed the last three wickets of the innings, including two consecutive wickets of Karan Kaul (14) at 44.4 overs and Shem Ngoche (0) at 44.5 overs, and of Elijah Otieno (1) at 46.1 overs.

Mahaboob Alam and Basanta Regmi took two wickets each.

Alam had claimed the 4th over of the innings as he bowled Alex Obanda (9) at 3.3 overs and Dhiren Gondaria (0) at 3.6 overs.

Kenya's Captain Rakep Patel (21) went down at 36.3 overs and Nelson Odhiambo (0) at 45.3 overs in Regmi's servings.

Karim and Collins Obuya were maintaining a strong partnership and successfully made 79 runs but, Sandeep Lamichhane broke it at 27.2 overs. After a long wait, Obuya returned to pavilion with 48 runs, including seven 4s, off 78 balls.

Lamichhane also caught Gurdeep Singh's shot mid-air in Sagar Pun's ball and earned 6th wicket for Nepal at 40.2 overs. Singh only made two runs.

Nepal are in a tight spot today as they need to win this match in order to get a spot in the top four of the table.

Nepali team captained by Gyanendra Malla won the toss and elected to field first.

Paras Khadka, who recently underwent surgery and is recuperating, missed today's match as well.

Nepal had suffered a loss against Kenya in their first of the two fifth-round matches held at the TU Stadium on Saturday. Kenya had achieved the double-reduced target of 94 runs in 25 overs at the loss of five wickets.
