KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 26

Nepal women's national volleyball team recorded fourth straight victory and advanced to the final of the AVC Central Zone Volleyball Championship in Mirpur, Bangladesh today.

Defending champions Nepal defeated Uzbekistan in straight sets for their fourth consecutive win in the six-team tournament.

Nepal took the first set 25-20 before winning 25-23 in the second set. Nepal then sealed the comfortable win by taking the third set 25-14.

Nepal accumulated 11 points from four matches and are at the top of the table. Sri Lanka are at the second position with 10 points, while Uzbekistan remained at the third on nine points from four matches. Kyrgyzstan have six, while hosts Bangladesh and Maldives have not been able to open their accounts. Nepal will play against Kyrgyzstan in their final group-stage match on Monday, while Sri Lanka will face Uzbekistan and the winners of the match will seal a berth in the final.

In men's section, Nepal registered their second victory and are assured of a place in the thirdplace playoff. Nepal defeated Maldives 27-25, 25-19, 25-23 in the last match of the league round.

Nepal accumulated six points from four matches and are at the third place despite being tied with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

Uzbekistan have three points, while Maldives are yet to open their accounts.
