Bhurtel made his T20I debut against the Netherlands in the recently held Tri-Nation Series in Nepal. Opening batsman Bhurtel had set a record scoring three consecutive half-centuries, becoming the first player in T20I history to do so in the series. Nepal had won the series held between Apr 17 to Apr 24, 2021.

Bhurtel scored 62 runs off 46 balls and set history in the Nepali and international cricket arena. No cricketer had scored three consecutive maiden 50s in international cricket, till then.

The 24-year-old right-hander played in the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup in 2016. In 2019, he made his List A debut, playing for Nepal in the Asian Cricket Council Emerging Sides Cup.

"Bhurtel's true abilities emerged on the international stage this April", wrote ICC.
