New Lira advance to final

KATHMANDU: New Lira recorded a comprehensive 10-wicket win over Bhanu Bhakta Memorial School to book a berth to the final of the U-16 Inter-school Kathmandu District Selection Cricket Tournament here today.

Bhanu Bhakta Memorial were bowled out for a meagre 27 runs in 10.5 overs. Man of the match Suyash Aryal and Sanjay Sharma claimed four wickets each while Bijay Rokaya grabbed one for New Lira. In reply, New Lira overcame the target without losing a wicket in 3.4 overs. Bijay Rokaya scored unbeaten 15-ball 21. New Lira advanced to the final with a maximum six points from two matches in Group ‘B’. Dreamland Public School finished second with three points while Bhanu Bhakta ended their campaign winless.

In the Group A match, National Model Science School beat Ideal English School by four wickets. Ideal made 104-3 in 20 over and National Model surpassed the total losing six wickets in 19.3 overs. Ideal opener Somesh Lamichhane top scored with 37 from 64 balls while Aseen Shrestha contributed 18 runs. Their total was also boosted by 31 sundries. Sameer Chhantyal, Sisir Sen and Sandesh Pandey bagged one wicket each for National Model.

In reply, Sameer Chhantyal scored a scintillating half century to guide National Model to victory. Man of the match Sameer struck seven fours in his 43-ball 51. Their run chase was also helped by 32 extras. Darshan Chalise and Somesh Lamichhane claimed two wickets apiece for Ideal.

Group ‘A’ is wide open with three teams — National Model, Ananda Bhumi and Suryodaya — tied on three points each. National Model, however, have played two matches while Ananda Bhumi and Suryodaya have played only one. Ideal is out of contention after losing two matches in a row.
