Niraula moves to third

KATHMANDU: Nepali chess player Bhupendra Niraula moved to third position after the sixth round of the sixth Asian Amateur Chess Championship at the Orchid Garden Hotel in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei on Wednesday.

The 2056-rated Niraula played a draw against Mohd Saprin Sabri of Malaysia in the fifth round before defeating WATS Gunasinghe of Sri Lanka in the next round. Niraula has 4.5 points from six matches and is behind joint leader Sabri and Daler Vakhidov of Uzbekistan.

Another Nepali player, Dharam Bahadur Lama played a draw against Nurul Aina Akmar Rohizan of Malaysia before beating Kamarusalehin Kamis of Brunei in the fifth and sixth rounds. Lama is at the 24th position with 3.5 points from six matches.
