NPC, Budanilkhantha win

Nepal Police Club and Budanilkhantha Muncipality Basketball Club registered victories in the Kwiks Nepal Basketball League here today.
NPC defeated Golden Gate International College 96-82 riding on allround performance from Bimal Karki, while Budanilkhantha beat BMC South Siders Basketball Club 85-59.
With their fifth victory in 11 matches, Budanilkhantha moved to third with 16 points and are tied with Golden Gate, who faced their sixth defeat in 11 games. NPC accumulated 14 points after their fifth win in nine matches, while South Siders have 11 points from 10 matches and they are tied with ANK Kirtipur Basketball Team.
Unbeaten Times International Club lead the eight-team table with 20 points, while Tribhuvan Army Club are second with 19 points. The Royal Basketball Club, who have played eight matches, are at the bottom with 10 points.
In the day’s first match, NPC outplayed Golden Gate in all four quarters.
The departmental side opened up with 21-13 lead and extended the advantage to 10 points by taking the second period 30-28. NPC won the third quarter 23-21 before taking the final one 22-20. Bimal Karki of NPC was named the player of the match after he netted 27 points and took eight rebounds.
In the evening match played at Golfutar, Budanilkhantha opened up with 11-point advantage after winning the first quarter 31-20. They extended the lead to 22 points going into the half time as they took the second period 25-14. Budanilkhantha fell 12-15 behind in the third quarter before winning the final period 17-10. Player-ofthe-match Bijay Rana top scored for Budanilkhantha with 14 points and he also had to blocks, five assists and three rebounds.
A total of eight teams are taking part in the biggest basketball tournament of the country organised by Play for Deprived Children Nepal under the sponsorship of Chaudhary Group. The top two teams of the 55-day homeand-away tournament will earn Rs 200,000 and Rs 100,000 respectively.
