Kathmandu, October 3:

NRN president Upendra Mahoto has announced to sponsor the winner’s prize for Springwood-NRN Kathmandu International Marathon. Devised as an event of NRN movement, the tournament will get $10,000 for the winner from president Mahato.

Chief convener and president of Nepal Marathon Pvt Ltd Nilendra Raj Shrestha said Mahato’s initiatives will further fuel the event. The main sponsor Springwood, an apparel of Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd, will provide Rs 2 million.

Slated for October 6, the tournament has been further supported by the decision of CPN (maoist) to avail some 2,000 runners to help meet the goal of fielding 10,000 participants. Maoist sports chief Barsha Man Pun said that the event carries a national pride.

Nepali Army has also assured to send 1,000 athletes while Armed Police Force and Nepal Police are likely to field their athletes in large numbers. As 5,000 participants have registered from other sectors, the involvement of the security persons and maoists will make up for the targeted 10,000 participants. Meanwhile, Nepal Television is going to cast the event live.
