NRSU padlock Sports Council

Kathmandu, January 10:

National Republican Sports Union (NRSU) padlocked the National Sports Council (NSC) indefinitely putting forth their four-point demand today. The union had sought to dissolve all the 57 sports associations and hold elections thereafter. The NRSU asked NSC to make public the expenditures of the 10th South Asian Games and 15th Asian Games.

It also sought concrete proof from NSC for alleging athletics coaches Sushil Narsingha Rana and Narayan Pardhan as the accomplices in the Rajendra Bhandari doping scandal. The 10 Sa Games double gold medallist Bhandari was tested positive for the banned drugs. The NSC suspended the two coaches alleging them for providing the athlete with the banned substances.

In its last demand, the NRSU asked the NSC to make transparent all the promotions, recruitments of its employees. The NSC promoted 201 officials recently.

The NRSU president Dhruba Bikram Malla said that they will stop administrative works in all the regional and district Sports Development Committee if their demands are met. Malla said that their programme will not affect any sports activities in the nation.

NSC member secretary Jeevan Ram Shrestha said they have followed the right path while promoting their staffs. Meanwhile, the NRSU programme forced two matches — RCT vs MMC and Friends vs NRT — of the ‘A’ Division League Football to be postponed for Thursday.
