NRT edge Divine to go atop, Madhyapur hold RCT
Kathmandu, August 27
New Road Team (NRT) beat Divine Boys Union Club 2-1 to record their second win in the Martyrs Memorial B Division Football League here at the Nepal APF Club grounds today.
NRT moved atop the table after Ranipokhari Corner Team played a goalless draw against Madhyapur Youth Association. NRT accumulated seven points from three matches to go atop on better goal difference after they were tied with RCT. Madhyapur are fourth with five points, one behind Shree Kumari Club.
NRT took the lead in the 16th minute with skipper Prabin Saiju scoring from the spot after Boys Union Club skipper Ashik Thapa handled the ball inside the danger zone. Bishwojit Gurung doubled the lead in the 67th minute capitalising on poor defence from Boys Union’s Binod Lama. Gurung found the net after Lama failed to clear the ball and in the process also blocked the vision of goalkeeper Sagar Raja.
Boys Union’s Binod Lama, who replaced Rajeev Lopchan in the 61st minute, cut the deficit in the 89th minute through a powerful free kick that left NRT goalkeeper Sandesh Gurung stranded.
NRT assistant coach Shyam Ale was not happy with the way his team played despite earning all three points. “Winning is one thing but our players did not play as expected against the team with young players. We are one of the most experienced sides in the competition,” said Ale. Boys Union coach Ranjit Singh said losing the match despite playing better than the opponents was unfortunate. “We conceded unexpected goals as the defence line and goalkeeping were not up to the mark today,” Singh said. “We also wasted a couple of goal scoring chances.”
