NSC stops boxing AGM
KATHMANDU, July 11
The special Annual General Meeting of Nepal Boxing Association ended up with an informal meeting on Saturday.
The AGM — scheduled for today at Nagarkot — has been put off after National Sports Council instructed the NBA not to hold the meeting.
“Representatives from 26 districts had already reached the venue by Friday evening when the NSC instructed us to stop the AGM,” informed NBA President Rajiv Shrestha. “We had to postpone the AGM as we have to follow the governing body’s instructions,” Shrestha added.
“As most of the officials had already come here, we held informal meeting with them. We will decide about the further steps later on,” he added. The AGM, which was being held for the first time since the election of the body in February 2012, was called to amend the statute of the association and discuss other issues.
The NSC sent a letter on Friday evening instructing the NBA to stop the AGM for two reasons — calling the AGM without giving 21-day notice to the officials and complaint of financial irregularities in the NBA, informed Shrestha, who is also the executive committee member of Asian Boxing Confederation.
