NSC to honour SAG winners on April 11

KATHMANDU: The National Sports Council (NSC) are set to felicitate the 11th South Asian Games medallists with cash rewards here on April 11.

The NSC member secretary Hari Babu Chaudhary also revealed that the sports governing body have sought the government for 5-aana of land to the gold medallists and provide them with the permanent job. Chaudhary said the NSC have been doing their homework to arrange for employment to the other sports officials as well.

The NSC had announced cash prizes of Rs 300,000, Rs 200,000 and Rs 100,000 to gold, silver and bronze medallists in the individual events. Also, the gold, silver and bronze medalists in the team events were assured of Rs 75,000, Rs 50,000 and Rs 30,000 respectively. Nepal won eight gold and as many silver and 11 bronze medals in individual events apart from one silver and nine bronze medals in the team events.

Meanwhile, the NSC indicated their intentions of dissolving the inactive sports associations. “We will not spare those associations which are not transparent on financial matters and are inactive,” said Chaudhay. Chaudhary was surprised over NOC General Secretary Jeevan Ram Shrestha’s comments on dissolution of Nepal Gymnastic Association (NGA) and Nepal Kabaddi Association (NKA). “I am surprised by double standards of some of the NOC officials. The same person, who dissolved 15 associations during his stint at the NSC, is crying foul,” said Chaudhary.

The NSC recently dissolved the NGA led by NOC president Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan. Almost a month earlier, the NSC had also reformed the NKA after its president Sunil Raj Rajkarnikar was found guilty in the dispute with the kabaddi officials during the 11th SA Games in Dhaka.
