NVA selects SA Games squad

KATHMANDU: Nepal Volleyball Association on Friday picked up 14 players for the 11th South Asian Games slated for January 29 to February 9 in Dhaka next year.

Among the players selected are Bharat Bahadur Shah, Saroj Shrestha, Jhom Bahadur Thapa, Prem Bahadur Shahi, Im Bahadur Magar, Ramananda Singh and Sanjay Aryal of Nepal Police Club (NPC), Kailash Dutta Bhatta, Sunil Kumar Shrestha, Khusi Chaudhary and Dipendra Bhatta of Armed Police Force (APF) Club, Bhola KC of Tribhuvan Army Club, Roman Shrestha of Mid-western Region and Tahal Singh Thapa Magar of Western Region.

Kailash, Sunil, Jom, Saroj and Bhola KC found their places as the Open-spikers while Prem, Roman, Sanjay Dipendra were picked up as Quick-spikers. Im and Bharat found their places as Back-spikers while Khusi and Ramananda are the lifter and Tahal Singh the solo libero of the team. The squad will be reduced to final 12 after the team’s return from Assam. The 14-member Nepali team is slated to participate in the Martyrs Cup Volleyball Tournament scheduled for December 2-4. One player each from Open-spiker and quick-spiker will be cut down, said the NVA.
