Paneru, Thapa in men’s singles final

Kathmandu, November 24:

Pashupati Paneru of Kailali and Balram Thapa of APF entered the men’s singles semi-finals at the Krishna Mohan Memorial Open Badminton Tournament, which has been organised by Central Sports Committee of Armed Police Force here at the APF Hall today.

In the semi-finals, Paneru — who recently quit Nepal Police along with Sumina Shrestha of Biratnagar — defeated Indra Mahata of APF 21-13, 21-9 and will face Balram Thapa, who defeated fellow APF Club shuttler Pankaj Chand 23-21, 21-14.

In the men’s doubles section, Paneru combined with Ram Singh Chaudhary to enter the final with a 21-16, 11-21, 21-17 victory over APF duo of Pankaj Chand and Bishal Pradhan. In the other semi-final, Balram Thapa and Indra Mahata beat MPC’s Surya Thapa and Ganesh Chand 21-17, 21-15.

In women’s singles semi-finals, Saradevi Tamang of Bhojpur defeated Sujana Shrestha of APF 21-6, 21-8 and Sumina Shrestha outplayed APF’s Nery Thapa 21-12, 21-15.

Later, Sumina and Saradevi combined to beat Nary and Sujana 21-14, 21-16 in women’s doubles semi-final. They will face APF’s Samjhana Khaling and Bina Tulachan of Nakhipot after their 21-15, 21-8 win over Purna Pun and Tulsi Gurung of Kaski.

The APF club dominated in the Under-19 section when the host team shuttlers advanced to the semi-finals in both the sections. Sujana Shrestha and Nery Thapa entered the girls’ final, while Kishor Rana and Sushil Bista advanced to the boys’ section final.

The finals are scheduled for Saturday.
