Para-taekwondo team off to Poland
Kathmandu, September 13
A four-member para-taekwondo team, including two female players, today left for Poland to take part in the fifth Open European Para-Taekwondo Championships slated for Friday in Warsaw.
Ranjana Dhami will compete in 40-50kg weight category, while Sita Bhandari will take part in 50-60kg weight category.
Dhami is the bronze medallist of the IWAS World Championship held in Russia in 2014 and the silver medal winner of Asian Para-Taekwondo Championship held in Manila, Philippines in February. Bhandari won bronze medals in both events.
Both the players are eying for gold medals in their respective weight categories. “I am targeting gold medal this time around and past results show that I am capable of doing so,” said Bhandari.
“I think we can win gold medals in the championship as we had sound preparations,” said Dhami. Kalyan Kunwar is the coach and Deepak Bista is the team leader.
Players from 40 nations are expected to compete in the championship, informed Bista. National Sports Council Member Secretary Keshab Kumar Bista bade farewell to the team.
