Peace Marathon set for March 1

Kathmandu, February 5

The fourth edition of the Lumbini Peace Marathon is slated for March 1 in Lumbini.

The event, organised jointly by Lumbini Peace Marathon and Adventure Sports Nepal, features marathon, half marathon and 5km race, informed Lumbini Peace Marathon’s  President Bikram Pandey at a press meet today.

The marathon  will start from Kudan and pass through Gotihawa, Kapilvastu, Banganga,  Tilaurakot Palace, Niglihawa, Arorakot and Dohani before concluding at  Lumbini Peace Garden. Similarly, half marathon will kick off from Dohani  and 5km race will start from Maya Devi Garden.

Event Manager  Shikhar Pandey said around 200 runners from Nepal and other countries  are expected to take part in the open category event. “The first and only spiritual sports event in the world is being organised to promote Lumbini as the ultimate tourist destination for all Buddhist followers and provide runners from all over the world a thematic marathon event apart from developing and promoting marathon sport in Nepal,” said Pandey.

The full  marathon winner will get Lumbini Ashoka prize worth Rs 100,000, while  second and third finishers will take home Kapilvastu Xuanzang prize (Rs  75,000) and Mayadevi Garden Uthant prize (Rs 50,000) respectively. Similarly,  the top three finishers in half marathon will take home Rs 50,000, Rs  35,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively. The winners of 5km race will be  awarded with gift hampers.
