Sherpa clinches Carlsberg Golf title

Kathmandu, December 10

Pemba Sherpa won the title of the Carlsberg Golf 2016 here at the Gokarna Golf Club today.

The eight-handicap amateur golfer Sherpa accumulated 37 stableford points to claim the trophy and gift hamper.  SSP (retd) Rajendra Shrestha finished second on count back after he was tied on 36 points with Maj Gen (retd) Mahesh Bikram Karki.

Vijay Shrestha Einhaus claimed the gross section trophy with 35 points and also won the longest drive award after he hit a drive of 330 yards on Hole No 18. Karki, who was second runner-up in the overall category on count back, lifted the senior (above-60) section title with 36 points, while Col (retd) Sashi Singh came second with 34 points. Karki also won the closest-to-the-pin awards on par-3 Hole No 10.

Pratima Sherpa lifted the women’s category trophy with 27 points, while Kalpana Limbu came second with 25 points. Wanchen Dhondup carded four birdies on his way to winning the most birdies award. In all, 90 golfers took part in the tournament sponsored by Gorkha Brewery Pvt Ltd.

Managing Director of Gorkha Brewery Pvt Ltd Arun Adhikary, Marketing Director Baibhav Sharma, Sales Director Kajiman Subba and President of Gokarna Golf Club Suhrid Ghimire handed over the prizes to the winners of the one-day tournament which was played under stableford 3/4 handicap format. Apart from this tournament, Gorkha Brewery also organises Carlsberg Golf Series of three tournaments every year at Gokarna Golf Club and a separate event at the Royal Nepal Golf Club.
