Phidim Sporting Club advance

Phidim Sporting Club saw off BRC Bhutan 2-0 to advance to the semi-finals of the eighth Tuborg Falgunand Gold Cup Football Tournament here in Phidim today.

Sharan Basnet scored both the goals for the hosts in the second half. Basnet opened the scoring in the 66th minute and doubled the advantage in the 79th minute. On Wednesday, Church Boys Club of Kathmandu will play against Karna Singh Sonam Football Club of Taplejung for a place in the semi-finals.

A total of 10 teams from Nepal, India and Bhutan are taking part in the tournament which is organised by Phidim Sporting Club in the memory of national hero Falgunand Lingden.

The final match of the tournament will be played on January 8. The winners and runners-up of the tournament will receive Rs 250,000 and Rs 150,000 respectively.
