PM positive towards cricket, says Pandey
KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Madhav Nepal today inquired the Youth and Sports Minister Ganesh Nepali and Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) President Binay Raj Pandey about the cricket players’ demands.
Upon receiving the call from the PM’s office, Minister Nepali asked Pandey to join him in the meeting. The PM discussed about the memorandum submitted by the cricketers. “I found him positive about the cricketers’ demands,” said Pandey. “Apart from the departmental teams, the business houses also should form their teams,” Pandey quoted the PM as saying.
A group of players, led by national team skipper Binod Das, had demanded employment, cricket teams in the Tribhuvan Army Club, Nepal Police Club and Nepal APF Club and contribution of the government in infrastructure development.
“I found the PM to be impressed with the U-19 successes. He also expressed amazement about Nepali women team’s victory over China,” Pandey said. “I told him that we could do well in future if the players get good facilities,” said Pandey. “The PM has asked us to submit a proposal regarding infrastructural development,” said Pandey. “We will request for support to build an indoor training facility at the Mulpani Academy,” he added.
