Pravesh strikes 2 golds
Pokhara, October 2:
Pravesh Adhikari of Baba Boarding School struck double gold medals in the second Machhapuchhre Cup Age-group and Open Swimming Championship here today.
Competing in the U-12 boys’ section, Pravesh won golds in 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle.
He completed the backstroke in 41.62 seconds and freestyle in 33.28 seconds. Senjon Sherpa and Kalindra Shahi finished second and third in backstroke while Afjal Raj Baidhya and Jattan Rayamajhi ended up second and third respectively in the freestyle.
Jitjwala Maharjan of Little Angels’ (LA) claimed the U-12 girls’ gold in 50m backstroke while Shristi Piya. In U-12 girls’ 50m freestyle, Manisha Joshi of LA, Aditi Nepali of Shuvatara and Chodren Ghale of LA claimed the top three positions respectively.
Shiris Gurung won the U-10 boys’ 25m backstroke gold while Shila Gurung of Kathmandu Valley struck gold in the girls’ section.
Other gold medals winners were Prakash Adhikari of Baba (Under-17 boys’ 50m backstroke), Pratistha Shrestha (U-17 girls’ 50m backstroke), Samrachan Thapa (U-10 boys’ 25m freestyle), Pamela Lama (U-10 girls’ 25m freestyle), Suman Gurung (U-14 boys’ 50m freestyle), Soni Gurung (U-14 girls’ 50m freestyle), Milan Thapa (U-17 boys’ 50m freestyle), Pratistha Shrestha (U-17 girls’ 50m freestyle), Manish Ghale (U-14 boys’ 50m backstroke), Sujan Gurung (U-10 boys’ 25m backstroke), and Suman Gurung (Under-14 boys’ 50m backstroke).
Likewise, winners in the Open Section were Raju Nepal in 50m freestyle and Suman Tamang in 50m backstroke. In all, 131 swimmers from eight schools, six from Kathmandu and two from Pokhara, took part in the tournament organised by Nepal Swimming Association.
