Prime Sports enter final

Kathmandu, January 24:

Prime Sports Club cruised to the girls’ section final with a comfortable 54-31 win over Golden Gate Club here at the Trinity National Basketball Championship today.

Prime, who were consistent throughout the match, scored 14 and 12 in the first two quarters and gave away only six and eight points to their opponents during that period. Prime further extended their 12-point lead in the third quarter adding 12 while containing Golden Gate to only six points. In the last quarter, they netted 16 while Golden Gate managed 11 points. Barsha Manandhar and Nayana Shakya scored 14 points each for Prime. Prime will play for the championship against the winners of the second semi-finals between defending champions Rato Bangala and Orient.

Meanwhile, defending champions Golden Gate and Unique Group made it to the semi-finals in the boys’ section. Golden Gate saw off Kaski district 66-49 while Unique rallied for a narrow 57-52 win over Prime in quarter-finals.

In the first quarter-finals, Golden Gate got hold of the match in the first two quarters. They accumulated 20 and 12 and gave away Kaski five and 15 points. Golden Gate added further 17 points each in the last two quarters in contrast to Kaski’s 14 and 15. Sushil Gurung scored 15 for Golden Gate

In the other quarter-finals, Unique (12 and 14) were trailing Prime (17 and 14) by five points by the half time before reducing the deficit to just one point in the third quarter adding 14 to that of the Prime’s 10. Unique turned the game around

by netting 17 points while restricting Prime to only 11 in final quarter. Robin Giri top scored for Prime with 22 points while Sameer Gurung chipped in with 17 for winners.
