Football dominates NSJF Pulsar Sports Award 2072

KATHMANDU: The 12th edition of Pulsar Sports Award organised by the Nepal Sports Journalists Forum (NSJF) concluded on Thursday with players from different sporting fields being lauded, at the Nepal Academy Hall in Kathmandu.

Football reigned supreme as it grabbed six among the accumulated nine awards that included the Team of the Year Award (Nepal national football team), Player of the Year Award-Male (Nawayug Shrestha), Coach of the Year Award (Bal Gopal Maharjan), Lifetime Achievement Award (Shree Ram Ranjitkar), Special Award (Late Lalit Krishna Shrestha), and Player of the Year-Youth (Anjan Bista).

The sporting gala started off with a tribute to late sports journalist Suman Bomjan, who died during the 2015 earthquake.

Likewise, the showpiece award of the afternoon, Player of the Year-Male went to a rising superstar of Nepali football, Nawayug Shrestha, for his exhilarating performance for the national side.

Shrestha had outshone everyone during Nepal's victorious campaigns in the Bangabandhu Gold Cup and the 12th SAG.

KATHMANDU: The 12th edition of Pulsar Sports Award, organised by the Nepal Sports Journalists Forum (NSJF), is being held today at the Nepal Academy Hall in Kathmandu.

One of the most prestigious sports award ceremonies in the country rewards various sports personalities under various categories.

Earlier, the NSJF had made lists of award nominees public few weeks ago.

Athletes all over the country are contending for eight titles that include Best Male, Best Female, Young Player, Best Coach, People's Choice Award, Lifetime Achievement Award, Para Athlete and Special Award.

Best Male, Best Female and People's Choice title winners will be lauded with a Pulsar motorcycle each along with Rs 1.5 million.

This year the People’s Choice Award winner will be decided as per the SMS votes and the Facebook likes.

Nawayug Shrestha who rose to fame with his sparkling performances in the Bangabandhu Gold Cup and the 12th SAG is expected to be the front-runner for the People's Choice Award along with Nepali cricket prodigy Sandeep Lamichhane, weightlifter Tara Devi Pun, Table tennis player Nabita Shrestha and volleyball spiker Pratibha Mali.

"We are done with the preparations and invite the whole sports fraternity to join us in our efforts of honouring the heroes of the country," said NSFJ Secretary Raju Tamang in a press conference on Wednesday.

Hansraj Hulaschand & Company Pvt Ltd has inked a deal with NSJF to be the main sponsor of the event for next five years.
